The Real Madrid midfielder has admitted his body is still fragile after being diagnosed with a rare bone disease.
Funes Mori has been out since November but he is set to return to action on Tuesday.
He underwent a biopsy on Tuesday and is set for a scan on Wednesday, a source close to the player told Sky Sport Italia.
Funes is a long-term absentee from training and has not trained since November 11.
He has been under the watchful eye of medical staff since his diagnosis but it is understood that the club are confident he will be back to full fitness by the end of this month.
The 28-year-old, who joined the Santiago Bernabeu club in the summer of 2016, missed only two months of the campaign because of a bone disorder that has forced him to miss training.
